Year 9 Options

The end of Year 9 marks an important point in a student's school career. After this, they do not study exactly the same set of subjects as everyone else in the year and are given a certain amount of freedom to choose the subjects they wish to study to GCSE level.

What are my choices?

All students will continue to study English, Mathematics, and Science to GCSE level. In addition, they may also choose four other subjects to study to GCSE level, two of which are expected to be a humanities and a modern foreign language. All pupils will also have non GCSE lessons in Religious Studies, PE and will receive PSHE through the tutor programme and Drop Down Days.  

Read the Options Book carefully. It contains some important information about the subjects they will study and will help them to make their choices. Guidance will also be available from the Assistant Head responsible for the Options process and by the Head of Year and Form Tutors during assemblies and tutor time. The aim should be to get as much advice as possible and make a wide choice of courses. A Google Link will be sent out to the students' school email address and will they will need to complete their options choices electronically. This is where they must indicate their choice of subjects. Later in the spring term, they will then have an Options Interview with a senior member of staff to discuss and finalise their choices.

What happens next?

You should have now attended the special Options Evening on Thursday 13th February and had the opportunity to go around departments finding out more about the courses that are of interest.
